The Defender reverse osmosis systems UV light will not have the Quartz sleeve and bulb installed. This must be done on site.
The use of cotton or latex gloves is recomended for this procedure as oils from the hands can leave residue on the sleeve and lamp which can ultimately block the UV light from getting to the water.
Gently push it in to lock it into the internal centering tabs in the far side of the reactor.
CAUTION: Pushing too hard when the sleeve is not aligned can damage the tabs and can break the sleeve.
It has a positive stop to prevent over-tightening. A firm force may be required to fully tighten the gland nut.
DO NOT use tools to tighten the gland nut. Hand tight is sufficient.
The spring works with the lamp and lamp connector to create the proper lamp alignment.
Remove the lamp key from the lamp's connector and set it aside.
Be careful to not touch the key's exposed contacts. Insert the UV lamp into the reactor, being careful not to drop it.
BE SURE to install the UV lamp spring in the quartz sleeve prior to installing the bulb.
Orient the lamp key so the label is upright and facing you during installation. The key will plug into the port on the right side of the controller.
Note the notch for proper alignment. Insert the lamp connector into the gland nut and turn the connector approximately 1/4 turn to lock the connector to the gland nut.
IMPORTANT! Make sure the quartz sleeve is installed properly and make sure there are no leaks before installing the bulb and powering the UV light.
